The Services Selection Board is a five-day assessment conducted by the Indian Armed Forces to decide who walks into Officer Training Academy. It is not an exam you can pass with a syllabus — it is a structured evaluation of the qualities an officer is expected to carry into a room with 300 strangers and come out leading some of them.
Every test on the board is measuring four things: your mind, your personality, your leadership and your decision-making under pressure. Clear thinking. Steady nerves. And a personality that stays the same person from the first OIR question to the last interview answer.

Consistency

Under pressure
Two stages. Five days. Forty-plus recommended out of several hundred recommended candidates per board. Here is exactly what happens and when.
Written and screening-level tests. Roughly 40-60% of candidates are screened out on Day 1 alone.

Reasoning, speed and accuracy under time pressure

The SSB Made Simple way
No unverified shortcuts. No borrowed strategies. Everything here has been tested across hundreds of boards — what gets recommended, what gets screened out, and exactly why.
With examples, strategies and practice material. Open any task to see what it actually measures, what a recommended answer looks like and where recommended candidates most commonly lose marks.
OIR
Officer Intelligence Test
A written test of verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Roughly 115-160 questions in 40 minutes with negative marking. It is a speed test wearing an intelligence test’s uniform.
Trying to finish every question. A negative-marked blank scores better than a coin-flip guess.
Practice material
10 timed sets + a 15-day accuracy tracker in the OIR Practice Pack.
Day 1 — Screening
OIR, PPDT, TAT and WAT. Around half the batch does not see Day 2.
Day 2 — Psychological
SDT and SRT, plus a PPDT follow-up discussion. Structure and honesty.
Day 3-4 — GTO
Outdoor group tasks. The largest single block of officer-like qualities.
Day 5 — Interview
Personal interview and group conference. The last impression that lands.
Post — CPSS & Medical
Combined Personality and Performance Examination, then the medical board.
No filler, no motivational posters. Every day of the plan maps to a specific test, a specific weakness and a specific drill.

“Your Journey to Uniform Starts Here”
Unedited feedback from NDA, CDS and AFCAT candidates who followed the 30-day plan and walked out recommended.
“I had cleared NDA but was rejected twice at SSB — both times at the GTO stage. Hitender sir’s command task drills were the fix. Third attempt: recommended. The 30-day plan is brutally honest about what actually gets you ticks.”
“The TAT 14-word framework changed my Day 1 completely. I stopped trying to write clever stories and started writing the same person twelve times. That consistency is what assessors are actually looking for.”
“Bought the book for ₹299 and ended up buying the full program. The interview master pack alone saved me — I walked into the PI with 30 personal stories and zero memorised answers. Recommended for Air Force.”
“What I value most is the honesty. Nobody tells you that most candidates fail on Day 3 at the GTO. This plan told me that in week one, so I spent weeks two and three outdoors instead of memorising TAT words.”
“Forty-two years old, two years of gap, and a family to feed. I was not confident I would get a chance again. The 30-day plan gave me a structure I could follow alongside my job. Recommended, Coast Guard.”
“The SRT structures are genuinely the best I have found anywhere. I walk in with Situation, Task, Action, Result every single time. My last three SRT series have been called "clear and structured" in my feedback reports.”
“I joined the Telegram group expecting generic motivation. Instead it is a daily drill group — people posting PGT times, lecturette recordings, asking for feedback on TAT stories. That accountability is worth more than the price.”
“The document checklist saved my candidature. My CBE details were filled in wrong and the form would have been rejected at the counter. Found the error two days before Centre Day because it was in week four of the plan.”
Task-by-task breakdowns, document checklists and the honest mistakes that cost recommended candidates the most.

Top assessors share the eight mistakes that recommend candidates every single board — and exactly how to avoid each one.
The interview is not a viva. It is a 25-30 minute conversation about you. Here is the structure, the story bank and the traps.
